mission

It shall be the mission of the Delphi Preservation Society to support the preservation, protection and restoration of historic structures in the greater Delphi area from the threat of neglect, obsolescence and the pressures of a modern society. To achieve this mission the Delphi Preservation Society will support, encourage, inform, and educate the public of the architectural significance, history, and heritage of the greater Delphi area.

The Delphi Preservation Society, Inc. was founded in August 1994, and held its first meeting during Delphi's Old Settlers Celebration. The society became an Indiana non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation in December of 1994. As a non-profit organization, we strive to preserve the historic architectural integrity of Delphi, Indiana.

The Board of Directors meets on the third Thursday of each month to discuss ongoing projects that concern the structures and people of Delphi. Meetings are open to all DPS members and their guests. Among the projects currently underway is the restoration of the Delphi Opera House located on the east side of the courthouse square in Delphi. When complete, this restoration project will return a jewel to Carroll County's crown and bring the performing arts back to the heart of Delphi.

The Delphi Preservation Society owns the former Crosby Hotel adjacent to the Delphi Opera House and is developing plans for its renovation. The Society also owns the Young building at 117-119 East Main Street donated to the organization in December 2012 by the Young Family. The facade has just been renovated as part of the Delphi Stellar Community project. Together with the adjacent building, this structure will become an affordable residential development opening in 2016. Finally, the former Methodist Church was donated to the Society in July 2013 by the trustees and congregants of the Delphi United Methodist Church. Located at the corner of Monroe and Union Street, the structure is being used as a community gathering space and arts center.
